So, I finally did it. I finally was able to make it work to go to a Get Your Teach on Conference and let me tell you, it far exceeded all of my expectations. First of all, Hope and Wade King have an energy that is just contagious! If you thought their book was amazing, then you are in for a real treat to witness them in person. They are both sweet, relatable, and inspirational and I could just watch them all day. Secondly, they give you all the teaching tools to really raise the bar in your classroom. I also loved that a lot of it I could take back and implement right away, like a catchy call and response or a positive mindset.
We started the conference off with a energy boosting filming of GYTO live and the Keynote from Hope and Wade (amazing btw in case I haven't said that enough) and broke out into our grade level sessions. I felt as though for the break outs, they did an amazing job of using a variety of speakers touching on a different topics and focuses. This was amazing because they all had a hands on experience (much how I lead my classroom) and was right up my ally. Now, all this sounds amazing right? And I wish I could go into more detail but I feel like you need to witness it for yourself of the magic of it all.
One thing I want to make clear, in case you're anything like me, is that you CAN go by yourself. Ya'll I am all about being an independent person but I was so in my head about not going with a friend or someone I knew. All the people that were supposed to go, couldn't end up going and I was freaking out about having to attend something alone. One of my goals for this year is to try new things so I told myself, girl, you're going no matter what and you're going to have a blast. Next thing I knew my hotel and flight were booked and the rest is history. I cannot tell you how many wonderful teachers I met. What helped the most was that I went to a meetup after day one, which gives you something to do at night and meet so many wonderful educators. If you're planning on going with someone else let me just remind you that if they aren't the same grade level as you, you will spend the majority of the day apart. All in all, I feel as though it was the perfect thing to do mid year as I now feel amped and ready to give this year my full attention. If you have any questions about attending alone feel free to ask in the comments below!
